Health & Insurance----For the first time, Indonesia to test dengue fever vaccines to the community. Today, hundreds of elementary school students in Jakarta, started getting injections of the vaccine and will continue to monitor developments in the next 5 years.
Vaccine trial Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Jakarta conducted at 5 points on the SDN Koja, SDN Pasar Minggu, Tambora SDN, SDN Senen, and SDN Kampung Melayu. Targeted in the next 5 years, hundreds of elementary students will receive an injection vaccine.
"To the East Jakarta targeted 800 children immunized with dengue fever and done gradually," said the Head Office of East Jakarta, Yuniarti Suaizi, while the implementation of the tests in the morning SDN 01 Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Wednesday (08/06/2011).
Yuniarti said the vaccine trial was preceded by socialization to the students and parents since 2 months earlier. On the day of execution, the participants will be interviewed by the doctors and asked to put signature on the form.
In this trial, the participants will get 3 times the injection intervals respectively for 6 months. After that, his condition will be monitored directly by a team from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia and Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
"We'll see how far the effectiveness of the vaccine, if it works is expected to go on a national immunization program," said Dr. Rini Sekartini Sp. A (K), one of the doctors who perform injections at SDN Kampung Melayu.
According to the Chief Medical Officer, Dien Emmawati, for vaccine delivery is scheduled in Jakarta in Puskesmas Kecamatan Tambora, Senen, Koja, Pasar Minggu, and Jatinegara. "Children who have been selected through the selection phase," he said.
Dien said, they selected a vulnerable group affected by dengue. Once injected dengue vaccine, further Dien, the 800 children that will be monitored over the next four years. If it does not cause any interference effects, the vaccine is ready for sale to the public in 2015.
The vaccine used in this trial is the result of the development of Chimerix Yellow Fever Dengue (Cyd 14), in cooperation with several countries in Southeast Asia, namely Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The trial begins today, simultaneously in these countries.
Besides in Jakarta, two major cities in Indonesia also have anti-dengue vaccine quota, namely Bandung and Bali. The vaccine was obtained after passing a 25-year study at five medical schools from five ASEAN countries namely Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia.
In addition to vaccine trial, Indonesia and 38 other countries have been assisted by Google to monitor Dengeu through Google Dengue Trends.
