Dengue Fever Cases Increase in Pekanbaru - Riau

Health & Insurance----Changes in extreme weather in the city of Pekanbaru – Riau feared an impact on public health. The Increase in temperature is so high (sometimes over 320 Celsius during the day) made a number of diseases feared could be contagious and attacks the citizens of the city of Pekanbaru.

One disease that is currently experiencing increasing numbers of people who are sharp enough dengue fever. Changes in extreme weather makes mosquito larvae breed faster.

Of the cases found (according to Pekanbaru City Health Department), there are 37 positive cases of dengue fever which occurred during the month of May 2011, and this increased sharply from 21 cases found in April 2011.

“Transitional weather is very influential, from the rainy season to summer or from summer to rainy season. Usually at this time, aedes aegypti mosquito proliferation (dengue fever) increases”, said Hamdan. SKM, Head of Section, Prevention and Eradication Communicable Diseases, Pekanbaru City Health Department.

Usually these mosquitoes will bite in the morning between the hours of 8:00 to 11:00 am, and in the afternoon at 2:00 to 6:00 pm.

Need a better prevention measures, especially by implementing Nest Mosquito Eradication Program. This can be done collectively by the community at least once a week and started from their own environment. While the government is prepared to do the spraying “fogging” to support the program.
